Standby Generators

Be your own electric company

The ice storm knocked out everyone’s power – except yours

Weather and maintenance issues have made our local power grid a bit fallible.  Many people have chosen to install some sort of standby power generation system to eliminate the power grid problem.  The choice of system is as personal and complex as choosing a home or automobile.  There is no ‘One size fits all’ solution to this problem.

Can you handle a 150 lb wheelbarrow?

If you are home all the time and can move a portable generator outside, then a manual generator system may be for you.  Each time the power goes out you set up the generator and use it to power the critical portion of your home.  When the power comes back on, you then put the generator away until the next time.  We can help you set up this system, train you to use it and even provide on site service for your portable generator.

Automatic standby generators sense when the power quality is poor (or zero).  These units turn on and switch some or all of your home over to the generator power.  When the grid has returned to service, the standby generator will switch the home back to grid power and shut itself off.  The advantage here is that you do not need to be home or in good shape for this to work.  Your car requires oil changes and maintenance.  A generator is exactly the same.  The engine needs oil changes and the moving parts need testing on a periodic basis.  We can set up and maintain a system for you.

Is your generator too small?

Some systems require you to choose which circuits will have generator power and which will not.  If there are more critical circuit demands than your generator can handle you have two choices.  The first is to upsize your generator system – more power will handle more circuits.  The second is to call us and ask about multiplexing your circuits based on your needs.  There is an excellent chance we can solve the problem without changing your generator for a larger one.  Call or e-mail for a free quote today.
